Jesus Christ is God

I know for many of my readers the title of this article may be shocking, or insulting, or at the least embarrassing. None the less, I believe it is true. As a rule, I do not throw my faith in people’s faces, or make people confess to Christianity before I befriend them, or look down my nose at non-believers. In fact, for many years now, I have made it a policy to never discuss my faith unless someone asked directly about it. However, recently, I saw a part of a show, “Shatner’s Raw Nerve” on cable.

The episode was with Gene Simmons of the band Kiss. In the episode, Mr. Simmons was describing an encounter with a man who had come up to him after a show, or event; I don’t remember entirely; and gave him a bible and sincerely wanted for his salvation. Mr. Simmons told Mr. Shatner that it took him aback because he had never been honestly approached like that for that reason. Mr. Simmons further said that he believed that if one is a Christian, and professes belief in Christ; but does not proselytize; then he or she is living a lie. He said that if you truly believed everyone who was not a believer was going to an eternity in hell, then you would be telling everyone all the time.

What Mr. Simmons said struck a chord with me. Now, that doesn’t mean I am immediately going into the street to start shouting at people. Jesus, as far as I can tell, was mostly about meeting with folks, or talking to people who came to seek Him for wisdom and guidance. While He never shied away from confronting those who would accuse Him of blasphemy; a crime punishable by death in those days; He also didn’t get a bull-horn and shout from the roof tops. The Jesus I see in the Bible is a being equally God and man who is trying to reach folks where they are, in their place of living. However, His outreach was mostly those who were willing to hear what He had to say. Obviously, these are general statements, and I could go into more specifics, but I believe the point has been made.

So, for what it is worth, this is my first attempt at the public telling about my beliefs in a proselytic way.

I believe in a triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
I believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God.
I believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin. I further believe that Christ was crucified, died, and rose on the third day.
I believe that the divinity of Christ is the fundamental truth of Christianity, my faith.
I believe that believers have been charged by Jesus Christ with a Great Commission to carry the Word of God to a lost and dying world.
I believe that Jesus will one day return to earth and reign forever as King of kings and Lord of lords.
I believe in the practice of baptism by immersion in accordance with the example of Jesus Christ.
I am a non-demoniational believer that attends a non-denominational church.
I believe, denominations do more to divide and separate believers than bring them together.

To put is plainly, yes Virginia there is a God, and He wants to be close to you and all you need to do is sincerely ask Him to and He will come into your life. All the rest of the details and stuff can be debated and will be until the end of time; but if nothing else; knowing that Jesus Christ is God and He is the only way to salvation is all you get, then I have done what I set out to do.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
